Notably, Praxiteles’ statue of Phryne gained such acclaim that the city of Cnidus purchased it after the city of Cos, which had originally commissioned the work, objected to its nudity. The statue became a popular tourist attraction, enabling the city of Cnidus to pay off its entire debt.
