The devotees of Chunhwа accentuate the genre’s simplicity and lyrical mood, setting it apart from the “schematic and bizarre” Japanese prints, as described in a Korean source. Korean spring paintings gracefully depict couples and threesomes engaged in sensual activities, both outdoors and indoors. In contrast to shunga, Korean erotic images adopt a more modest approach in terms of settings, poses, and circumstances. The emphasis is placed on realism rather than exaggeration, resulting in genitals that are not portrayed as enormously as in shunga pieces.
